16-19 Bursary
If you are 16-19 and live in a household with a gross annual income of £50,000 or less, please click on the link to submit an application for the bursary.
You may be able to receive assistance with:
Transport to and from college dependent on distance
Meals provided on the days that you are in college
Support with the cost of kit and course related equipment including IT devices and connectivity
Childcare for the days that you attend college
Support for trips, visits to other educational establishments and interviews
Emergency support in crisis situations
Support is usually provided in teh form of an under 19 travel pass, allocation of an amount to spend using your student card at college catering outlets and by provision of kit/materials for your course rather than cash payments.
Payments are linked to attendance and may be stopped if you are not regularly attending college.
To be eligible for the bursary you must:
- be aged 16, 17 or 18 on the appropriate date
- be enrolled on a full-time funded course
- provide evidence of household income/benefits at application – You will need parental support to provide this
- meet the residence requirement
- attend your classes

Under 19 travel pass
Students who are travelling via public transport on an Under 19 pass must carry a form of ID with them at all times throughout their journey, including on evenings and weekends.
Failure to have any of the listed forms of ID may result in a £50 fine, removal from the bus or train, and the immediate cancellation of the ticket being used by Revenue Protection Officers.
The only accepted forms of ID are:
- Passport
- Driving licence
- Metro Under 19 PhotoCard
The Under 19 PhotoCard is free and can be obtained online through West Yorkshire Metro: https://passes.wymetro.com/
A passport-style photo is required and the card takes up to five working days to be delivered.
Alternatively, students can obtain a card from the Metro stand at Bradford Interchange or Leeds Bus Station.
