‘Home’ is where the art will be in an exciting fashion competition launched by the Bradford School of Art.
The BA (Hons) Fashion Design Programme has invited people to channel their inner Alexander McQueen or Hussein Chalayan and design a men’s or women’s outfit, using the word “home” as a starting point for their creation.
Bringing us all together through art
Angela Loftus, BA (Hons) Fashion Programme Leader at the Bradford School of Art at Bradford College, said: “At a time when we have all had to spend more time at home than usual, the fashion department aims to bring us together through a competition taking inspiration from the concept of home.”
The winning design will then be professionally pattern cut and made within the department by students studying degrees at Bradford College and showcased in the college’s Graduate Fashion Show.
Create a sketch
People taking part will create a full front and back view sketch on a figure of a design. Angela said: “You may wish to focus upon your favourite room, a particular memory from your childhood home, your most treasured item kept within it or even the place or country that you or your family call home.
“Alternatively, you may wish to look at creatures that carry their homes on their backs or the longing for a home by those who no longer have one. The possibilities are endless!”
There are two judging categories for this competition: under 16s and 16+. The college has also invited young people at schools across the Bradford district to create outfits.
The competition is also being promoted at The Broadway shopping centre in Bradford. There, mannequins in shop windows are displaying garments created by students in shop windows. The students who created these garments are studying for the BA (Hons) Fashion degree at the Bradford School of Art. The display, near leading high street fashion retailers, promotes the degree course and highlight the varied and exciting careers in the fashion world.
