The T Level in Science is an exciting two-year qualification designed for students who are passionate about laboratory work, experimentation, and the practical application of scientific principles. Developed in collaboration with employers, this course blends classroom-based learning with real-world experience through an extended industry placement.
Students will develop core scientific knowledge across biology, chemistry, and physics, alongside key technical skills in laboratory techniques, quality control, and workplace safety. You’ll learn how science supports medical, environmental, and industrial research — preparing you for a wide range of scientific and technical careers.
This course is equivalent to three A Levels and provides a direct route into skilled employment, higher apprenticeships, or university-level study in science and health-related subjects.

Core Science Concepts (Year 1)
You’ll study the key scientific principles that underpin laboratory practice — including cell biology, organic and inorganic chemistry, atomic structure, and energy transfer. The module also introduces industry-standard laboratory procedures and record keeping.
Working within the Science Industry
Focuses on professional behaviours, health and safety, and ethical practice in scientific environments. You’ll learn about regulatory frameworks and how science contributes to technological innovation and sustainability.
Laboratory Skills and Techniques (Year 2)
Hands-on training in preparing solutions, using analytical equipment, and performing accurate data collection and interpretation. You’ll develop skills used in clinical, environmental, and industrial labs.
Employer-Set Project and Industry Placement
You’ll complete a substantial industry project and a minimum 45-day placement with a science-based employer, applying your learning to real-world challenges and building employability skills.
• At least 5 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above, including English, Maths, and Science
• A strong interest in laboratory work and scientific investigation
• Successful interview and reference
Assessment is through:
• Written examinations (core science knowledge)
• Employer-set project
• Occupational specialism assessments (practical and theory)
After completing the T Level in Science, you can progress to:
• Higher education in Biomedical Science, Forensic Science, Environmental Science, or related degrees
• Higher or Degree Apprenticeships in Laboratory Science or Healthcare Science
• Employment in laboratory technician, research assistant, or quality control roles
