Overview

Delivered in a bright welcoming space by experienced industry-trained staff.  This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed for a range of Early Years occupations, enabling you to progress into skilled employment or higher-level technical training.

As well as the learning-based element of the course, work experience is compulsory 1 day per week. This can give you a career edge and fast-track you into your Early Years area of interest. Topics range from safeguarding, growth and development, and preparation for school.

This course is a 1 year course and is designed to support students in being fully equipped to progress to a full T-Level course.

Upon achievement of this qualification, you may be able to progress to the T Level Education and Early Years or the Foundation T-Level.

This course will be tailored to you to help and support you in your education journey.

As part of this course, you will have the opportunity to develop skills and understanding in Safeguarding as well as Paediatric First Aid.

This course aims to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years (0-5 years). The qualification content meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) Level 2 full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.

On this course you will learn:

  • Roles and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner
  • Health and safety of babies and young children in the early years
  • Equality, diversity and inclusive practice in Early Years Settings
  • Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in Early Years Settings
  • Understand how to support children’s development
  • Support care routines for babies and young children
  • Support the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes
  • Promote play in an Early Years Setting
  • Support well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles
  • Support babies and young children to be physically active
  • Support the needs of babies and young children with Special Educational Needs and Disability
  • Promote positive behaviour in Early Years Settings
  • Partnership working in the early years
  • Support the needs of the child in preparing for school
  • English and Maths – If students do not hold a grade 4 GCSE in both Maths and English, this course will aid those students in obtaining the required grades.

Minimum grade 3
in both Maths and English Language plus 2 other GCSEs at grade 3 or above.

This course will make sure that you are equipped with all the necessary technical skills, experience and attitudes to work in the childcare sector. Your mentor will assess you throughout the course to make sure that you will successfully progress from this course onto further T-Level study or into work.

You will complete a placement within early years 1-day a week during the course. 

Successful completion of this course means that you will have gained the necessary experience and skills needed to progress onto further T-Level study on your chosen route. You may choose to progress onto our T-Level in Education and Early Years.
