  Overview

The Level 3 Technical Qualification in Education and Childcare will provide students with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress into skilled employment or higher-level technical training or study in the education and childcare sector.

There are 3 occupational specialisms within the qualification, which are: Early Years Education and Childcare, Assisting Teaching, and Supporting and Mentoring Students in Further and Higher Education, all of which will consist of both classroom-based and practical learning.

You will also have the opportunity to complete 350 hours of relevant work experience which can give you a careers edge and fast track you into the area of education and childcare that you are interested in. You will develop a rounded knowledge and relevant set of skills that are favoured amongst employers in this sector.

The qualification is split into 2 component parts:

Core Component:

  • The knowledge and underpinning concepts, theories and principles as well as core skills for the education and childcare sector.

Occupational Specialisms:

  • Early Years Educator
  • Assisting Teaching
  • Supporting and Mentoring Students in Educational Settings

Students will only complete one occupational specialism. The occupational specialisms provide students with knowledge and skills required to enter employment or further study in the specific occupational area.

Entry to this course requires 5 GCSEs graded at a 4 or above including English and Maths.

Assessment includes exams, coursework and a portfolio for professional practice.

You will have the opportunity to complete 350 hours of relevant and enriching work experience related to the area that you want to work in. This can give you a careers edge and fast track you into the Childcare sector.

Successful completion of this course can lead to progression into higher level study or employment in the Childcare and Education sector. Careers include Primary School Teacher, Nursery Practitioner and Teaching Assistant.
