Overview
The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Engineering builds is for you if you would like to explore and develop practical and technical skills in engineering.

What You Will Learn
As a practical element it focuses on Fabrication and Welding. You will gain an understanding of welding processes and how to weld. You will also learn how to use fabrication equipment and perform cutting of metals.
Modules
You will study the following units:
- Principles of Engineering
- Developing Engineering Workshop Practice
- Working in Engineering Businesses
- Welding Processes
- Fabrication Practice
- Cutting Processes
Entry Requirements
Entry to this course requires GCSE English and Maths at a grade 3 or D.
Please note that safety boots and a suitable overall will be required for the practical workshop sessions. All other personal protective equipment (PPE) will be supplied. Further details will be supplied during the induction process.
Assessment
To achieve the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Engineering candidates must successfully complete both mandatory assessment components.
- An external awarding body exam (one per year)
- An external awarding body set assignment (one per year)
- You must also undertake employer involvement activities
Work Experience
Your course may include work experience or a work placement that could lead to the offer of a part-time or casual work, or you might work outside of your studies.
Progression
Successful completion of this course can lead to progression to further study or employment in the Engineering sector.
Fees & Additional Costs
If you are 19 years old or over you may need to pay fees for your Further Education studies.
Course fees depend on your age and course level.
You may be exempt from paying fees though, or eligible to pay a reduced fee – known as fee remission.
If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 and studying on a full-time or part-time Further Education course, you will not pay tuition or examination fees.
This covers all Further Education courses, functional skills for English and Maths courses.
You will need to pay for course costs such as books, stationery, special equipment, exams, registration fee, travel, meals and any other course-related activities.
Help towards these costs is available for many students.
