What is Qualified Teacher Status?

QTS is the Department for Education’s recognised professional status. It confirms that an individual has met the standards to teach in England and is a requirement for most schools in England.

A teacher with QTS can access the qualified teacher pay scale and is eligible for the Early Career Teacher (ECT) induction and support for the first two years of their career.

School-based Placements

Our school-based placements enable you to get hands-on experience; linking theory with practice. You will be supported by a college-based tutor who will work alongside you and your mentor to give you the knowledge and feedback to help you to develop skills and understanding needed to be successful.

With strong and established links with schools and nurseries in the local area, we will provide you with placements that are contrasting, compliant and support you in your journey to becoming a teacher.

BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS

Ideal for anyone who wants to train to be a teacher and needs a degree, this undergraduate programme leads to an honours degree with QTS.

Our course integrates educational theory with extensive school‑based practice to develop reflective, skilled, and confident primary teachers. It prepares you to teach across the primary curriculum within your chosen age phase, with a focus on strong professional values, inclusive practice, and a strong understanding of child development.

Multiple contrasting placements provide you with opportunities to gain real‑world classroom experience. Whilst Intensive Teaching and Practice (ITaP) weeks combine research, expert modelling, classroom practice and feedback, to ensure that you understand effective teaching and strengthen the link between theory and practice.

This degree programme is designed to prepare you thoroughly for your early career teacher (ECT) years and to be aspiring leaders of education.

Do you have a passion for supporting children, young people and adults through education? This three-year honours degree covers a wide range of current educational topics and concepts.

You will explore national and global educational aspects of sociology and politics, whilst simultaneously investigating the history and philosophy of education. The work experience placement built into the programme provides you with an opportunity to gain practical insight into the area of education you might be considering for future employment.

This course will give you a real insight into the diverse roles within educational settings and provide you with work experience to help bring your learning to life.

PGCE Primary Education with QTS

A PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) is one of the most popular teaching-training qualifications. Our PGCE combines a 60 credit, level 7 qualification with QTS. As an internationally recognised qualification, a PGCE provides flexibility for anyone considering working in England or abroad. It also provides the option to continue into further study.

Our PGCE in Primary Education is for graduates who want to inspire and support primary aged children. It has been carefully designed and combines academic study, school-based training and Intensive Teaching and Practice (ITaP) weeks to build strong foundational knowledge across the primary curriculum and chosen age phase.

The College sessions, delivered to small groups in a bespoke classroom-based environment, focus on key educational and pedagogical areas underpinned by current and relevant research. This theoretical understanding is then applied as skills in real classrooms during school-based experiences. It is the perfect mix of academic study and classroom experience.
