  Overview

Designed to introduce you to an extensive range of practical skills and knowledge to act as a foundation for you to build your confidence as a junior stylist and progress onto the next level of hairdressing qualification. The course will give you a real taste of the industry, you will train in our commercial salons and have the opportunity to complete work experience. You will be continuously assessed over the period of the course building up a portfolio of evidence as you progress with your skills.

You’ll study a range of units including styling and dressing hair. You will be developing industry related skills and building your soft skills that employers require.

Entry to this course requires a minimum of grade 2 in GCSE English and Maths as well as a keen interest to pursue a career in the hairdressing or Beauty industry.

Please note that it is required that you purchase a kit.

You will be assessed on your practical skills in our salons building up a portfolio of evidence; your theory knowledge will be assed via external exams.

Work experience is a compulsory component of the course.

Successful completion of the course means that you will be able enter the Level 2 hairdressing or Level 2 barbering courses. You may choose to progress to further study or employment in the Beauty and Hairdressing sector.

If you are 19 years old or over you may need to pay fees for your Further Education studies.

Course fees depend on your age and course level.

You may be exempt from paying fees though, or eligible to pay a reduced fee – known as fee remission.

If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 and studying on a full-time or part-time Further Education course, you will not pay tuition or examination fees.

This covers all Further Education courses, functional skills for English and Maths courses.

You will need to pay for course costs such as books, stationery, special equipment, exams, registration fee, travel, meals and any other course-related activities.

Help towards these costs is available for many students.
