Media Makeup student Clare Bailey recognised at Fashion Fiesta Showcase

Bradford College student Clare Bailey is celebrating success both in the industry and at College. She has received recognition for her work in media makeup and special effects

Clare is studying for a Higher Education degree in Media Makeup with Special Effects. She recently won the Team Player Award at the Fashion Fiesta event. The industry-focused showcase bringing together creative talent from across the region and beyond. Bradford College recognised Clare at the College’s Star Awards, naming her Subject Area Student of the Year for Performance and Production Arts.

The Fashion Fiesta award highlights Clare’s collaborative approach and professionalism. She has developed these skills through hands-on experience and a willingness to embrace new opportunities.

“It felt really validating,” Clare said. “Even if I hadn’t won, I would still have taken so much from the experience – but being recognised like that feels like a real thank you.”

Clare’s Fashion Fiesta achievement came after she took the initiative to apply for the industry-focused event. There, she worked alongside other makeup artists and models. She embraced the opportunity and impressed organisers with her professionalism and teamwork.

The event took place in Saltaire. It brought together creatives from across the region and beyond, with some participants travelling from London. Clare described it as a valuable networking experience. It allowed her to connect with professionals and gain real-world insight into the industry.

Her contribution stood out, earning her the Team Player award. Clare says it reflects her natural preference for supporting others and working collaboratively.

Clare credits her success to the support she has received from tutors and the College’s wider services. This includes the Skills Hub, which helped her develop essential IT and study skills.

With her course set to finish this year, Clare is now exploring her next steps, including opportunities in TV and film through the agency ScreenSkills. She also plans to take on freelance work in areas such as bridal and events.

“I’m not going to say no to any opportunities,” she said. “This course has opened so many doors.”

Clare’s achievements demonstrate what determination, passion and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone can accomplish.
