A busy week of baking, bike riding, a breakfast club and “the biggest teddy bear you have ever seen” has raised more than £700 for disadvantaged children in Bradford.
Progression to Learning and Work and Team and Early Years, Social Care and Progression students at Bradford College have raised £740.88 for the Cash for Kids Appeal, supporting families who have been hardest hit by the Covid pandemic.
Cash for Kids charity manager Lisa Sullivan has thanked the students for their support, saying: “This will help more than 20 families in Bradford. You really have made a massive difference and it is great to see how young people are working together to help each other in Bradford. You should all be very proud of yourselves.”
Kay Rigby, Administrator for Early Years, Social Care and Progression at Bradford College, said: “There have been lots of exciting projects that both the staff and students were involved in. A mobile stall sold goods such as unwanted gifts and bottles and tins and the chance to win 50 chocolate bars in a raffle. Lots of Items have been donated by local companies so these items were also sold throughout the college.”
A member of staff also made buns and held a Breakfast Club which quickly raised money. There was a static bike ride and a chance to name two enormous cuddly toys.
Progression to Learning and Work offers progression courses for people who have learning difficulties or disabilities. They help people to build confidence, develop new skills and help you improve English and maths, ready for their next steps through College.
The entry level 3 and level 1 vocational study programmes are ideal for students who have no or limited qualifications. The study programme gives students the opportunity to develop confidence in their personal and social development as well as building on their vocational employability skills. A key element of the programme is to develop maths and English skills to support progression routes to level 2 and 3. In addition to this, students may participate in work experience.
Progression to Learning and Work vocational study programmes cover a huge range of options at Entry 3 and Level 1 and are a stepping stone to careers in the following areas: Art, Beauty Therapy, Business, Catering, Childcare, Digital Media, Enterprise, Hairdressing, Health and Social Care, Hospitality, ICT Outdoor Studies, Performing Arts, Public Services, Science, Sport, Travel and Tourism.
