Teaching Assistant Courses

This course has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in schools or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development supporting positive behaviour, communication and professional relationships.

It is aimed at learners working in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary and secondary schools as well as colleges. It prepares learners for employment. Learners will need to be working or on practical placement throughout the qualification as they need to learn skills and show competency.

Apprenticeships give you the opportunity to learn and train in your chosen career as well as earning a regular pay packet. You will be given first-hand experience and learn the majority of the skills needed on the job, whilst also completing off-the-job training.

Teaching Assistants work in Primary, Special and Secondary education across all age ranges encompassing special educational needs and emotional vulnerabilities.

The primary role of the Teaching Assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress. Promoting self-belief, social inclusion and a high self-esteem play an integral part to pupils’ well-being; ensuring pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing, safe environment.

You will gain hands-on experience and develop key skills in the workplace, alongside completing off-the-job training. Early Years Educators work in nurseries, pre-schools, children’s centres, reception classes and as childminders, supporting children from birth to 5 years old.

This course will allow you to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to support children’s learning, development and wellbeing. You will learn to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), helping to create safe, nurturing and stimulating environments where young children can grow and thrive.

If you’re currently working in a school or educational setting and wanting to pursue higher education this course is ideal for you. Designed to be delivered outside of school or working hours this two-year foundation
degree will allow you to develop your knowledge and skills in education without impacting on your daytime working hours.

The course draws on your knowledge and experience gained through working in an educational setting. The compulsory work placement (paid or voluntary) embedded within this programme will enable you to apply the education theory delivered through college sessions into practice to become competent academically and professionally. Educational themes covered are current and topical to ensure that you can utilise your knowledge and skills from your working role to support your academic development
and progression.

Successful completion of this foundation degree enables you to take on promoted support roles in education or progress on to further courses, such as our level 6 top-up degree and then a further qualification to enable you to achieve qualified teacher status.

The curriculum and delivery are carefully designed to support students working or who have recently worked in an educational setting. The course aims to cover all educational phases, thus supporting students with a wide range of experience that can be utilised within the academic modules. Topics covered consider educational themes such as sustainability drawing on the most recent research. The opportunity to conduct active research in your chosen educational area means that the skills and knowledge developed are unique to you.

Progression onto a course from our selection of programmes such as the PGCE (with QTS) or PSET Postgraduate Diploma is actively encouraged.
