Study LevelLevel 3 Course TypeAdult Duration1 Year Start DateSeptember 2026 Study ModeFull-time LocationTrinity GreenThroughout the course, you’ll explore the scientific and technical principles that underpin modern electrical systems, while gaining hands‑on experience with the tools, equipment and methods used across the industry. You’ll develop the ability to interpret technical information, follow industry standards, and apply safe working practices in real‑world scenarios.
The qualification is structured to help you grow both academically and practically, supporting your progression into employment, an apprenticeship, or further specialist training. By combining classroom learning with practical workshop activities, the course ensures you are fully prepared for the responsibilities and expectations of a skilled electrical installer.
You’ll explore how electrical properties influence circuits, systems and equipment, and get to grips with the operating principles of D.C. machines, A.C. motors and key electrical components. You’ll learn how lighting systems are designed and applied, and develop a strong understanding of supply characteristics and consumer equipment.
You’ll also build the knowledge needed to design electrical installations, carry out safe testing and commissioning, and complete all required certification and documentation. This includes testing before circuits are energised, testing live systems, and ensuring installations meet industry standards.
As the course progresses, you’ll learn how to identify electrical faults, understand why they occur, and apply the correct procedures and techniques to diagnose and fix them. You’ll also gain hands‑on experience commissioning electrical systems and equipment in line with current requirements.
By the end of the programme, you’ll have the advanced knowledge, practical skills and professional confidence to take your next step in the electrical installation industry.
Learners progressing internally must have completed the Level 2 Electrical Installation qualification at Bradford College and have a good understanding of maths and English skills; including problem-solving, listening, speaking, reading, writing and communication.
You’ll develop and demonstrate your practical skills in inspection, testing, commissioning, and fault diagnosis of electrical systems and equipment within our dedicated assessment centre. Alongside this, you’ll complete online multiple‑choice exams to evidence your understanding of advanced electrical scientific theory and the requirements for electrical installations. You will also complete a scenario‑based project focused on electrical design and installation practices, allowing you to apply your knowledge in a realistic, industry aligned context.
As part of your Key Stage 5 Technical qualification, you will take part in employer involvement to gain meaningful experience of the workplace and develop industry‑relevant skills. This will be in the form of employer‑led activities during your course giving you a clear understanding of real working environments, strengthening your learning, and helping ensure your qualification is valued by industry.
