Skills you’ll develop: 

  • Staying Safe at Work – Understand health and safety rules in engineering and how to keep the workplace safe. 
  • Engineering Knowledge – Learn the basics of mechanics, materials, and how energy and heat work in machines. 
  • Using Tools and Machines – Get hands-on practice with real tools and machinery used in mechanical manufacturing. 
  • Reading and Creating Drawings – Understand how to read engineering drawings and use CAD software to design parts. 
  • Checking Quality – Learn how to inspect and test work to make sure everything meets the right standards. 
  • Managing Projects – Build skills to plan, carry out, and review engineering projects from start to finish. 
  • Teamwork and Communication – Work well with others and build confidence in sharing ideas clearly.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is a must have for this course.  

You will need:  

  • Safety boots and fire-retardant overalls. These will be provided should you meet the conditions of the bursary*.

Entry to this course requires GCSE English Language, Maths and Science at grade 4 and above, and a Level 2 qualification in Engineering.  

We use a mix of assessments to check your skills and knowledge. These include:

  • Written Exams 
  • Practical Assessments 
  • Coursework Portfolio 

These different methods help make sure you’re ready for a real job in engineering. 

Gain hands-on experience in real-life industry settings!    

For this course you must undertake employer involvement activities, where you’ll dive into the world of work and gain the skills employers are looking for.

With this, you’ll have hands-on experience to showcase on your CV, showing your industry skills to employers. 

After completing this course, you’ll be ready to pursue: 

  • Higher Apprenticeships in Engineering, working in areas like mechanical design, manufacturing, or maintenance engineering.
  • University Degrees in Engineering in subjects such as Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Product Design.
  • Roles such as CAD Technician, Quality Assurance Engineer, or Mechanical Engineering Technician.
