Our Level 2 Plumbing adult course equips you with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to continue your career in the plumbing industry. This course blends theoretical learning with hands-on experience, preparing you for further study and employment. As an aspiring plumbing and heating engineer working in domestic, commercial, or industrial settings, you will develop a strong understanding of plumbing scientific principles and systems, appliance fittings, and various plumbing methods. You’ll also gain expertise in industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices. Upon successful completion, you will be qualified at a Plumber’s mate level, ready to take the next steps in your career.

You will learn about the importance of health and safety in the plumbing industry, plumbing science and theory including flow rates, pressure, temperature control, and the principles behind hot and cold water systems, sanitation, and above ground drainage. You’ll also develop your understanding of the materials, tools, and calculations used in modern plumbing installations. You will also take advantage of learning about green skills and sustainability with a strong focus on smart technology, water efficiency and an awareness of heat pumps, solar thermal systems, greywater recycling and low‑carbon heating solutions. Learners progressing internally must have completed the Level 1 Plumbing qualification at Bradford College and have a sufficient understanding of maths and English skills; including listening, speaking, reading, writing and communication.

You’ll develop and showcase your practical abilities in our plumbing workshop and bathroom assessment centre, alongside completing online multiple‑choice exams to confirm your understanding of plumbing theory. During the course, you’ll install a variety of pipework systems and fittings, and connect them to different types of plumbing appliances and equipment. You’ll also put key health and safety practices into action, including, risk assessment, manual handling, and the correct use of power tools, ladders, and mobile tower scaffolding.

Your course may include work experience or a work placement that could lead to the offer of a part-time or casual work, or you might work outside of your studies. Our students benefit from local site visits and trips to construction companies.

Successful completion of this course can lead to opportunities for employment or an apprenticeship.
