The science field has high expectations, with new recruits frequently needing specific skills regardless of their desired discipline. This course will provide the foundation required to get you set for an exciting career in the science industry. This course is perfect if you have a passion for problem solving and investigation and a good eye for detail.
You’ll learn both the principles and applications of all three sciences. You will also be able to develop your skills in Maths and English.
You can expect hands-on practical learning combined with gaining a good grasp of theory. You will study in our specialist laboratories and be taught by highly skilled and experienced tutors. You’ll get a great insight into the career paths available across a range of scientific careers.
“Throughout the two years, you will experience a range of exciting practicals that link to biology, chemistry, and physics. Whilst continuing to make links to a range of scientific careers, such as Forensic Analysis, Laboratory Technician, Environmental Scientist and Radiography. You will study in our specialist laboratories and be taught by highly skilled and experienced tutors. This course is a mixture of lectures, practical work and self-directed study, allowing you the time to also study Maths and English to achieve Grade 4’s

Entry to this course requires GCSE English, GCSE Maths and GCSE Combined Science or two single Science GCSEs at a grade 3. We also accept Level 1 Applied Science and Functional Skills Maths and English level 1 or above.
There is a total of 13 Units across the two years, 20% of the course is externally assessed, 80% of the course is coursework-based.
You will undertake a minimum of two meaningful employer encounters and two employer‑led masterclasses, all designed to develop your soft and foundational skills. Throughout the course, you will partake in tailored workplace visits and industry insight events, explore specific career pathways and gain a clear understanding of workplace expectations. You will also undertake mock interviews, CV development activities and receive guidance and support from industry professionals to help you prepare for your next steps
The skills and knowledge you gain on the course will enable you to progress on to more advanced qualification such as the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science or get a job in a range of scientific areas including Environmental Science, Food Science, Scientific Research, Quality Control, Hospital Laboratory work and new Product Testing.
Alongside your study you have the opportunity to go on a wide range of trips and join in with our Enrichment opportunities.
