Overview

Our Level 2 Electrical Installation course provides you with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to continue your career as an electrician. The course combines theoretical understanding with practical skills development, preparing you for both further study and workplace readiness. Like an installation electrician working in a domestic, commercial or industrial environment, you will demonstrate an understanding of electrical scientific principles, the installation of different wiring systems, enclosures and equipment, circuit theory and installation methods, electrical testing procedures and much more. On successful completion of this qualification, you will be at an Improver/Electrician’s mate level.

This course includes project‑based learning that embeds GCSE Maths and GCSE English directly into theoretical and practical, vocational tasks through a contextualised model. This ensures learners develop relevant, essential and applied skills that align with the expectations of the construction industry and support their long‑term progression.

You will learn about the importance of health and safety in the electrical industry, electrical theories including; Ohm’s Law, power equations, and resistance, the principles of alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC), electromagnetic principles and mathematical calculations for electrical installations. You will also take advantage of learning about green skills and sustainability with a big focus on smart technology, energy efficiency and an awareness of solar pv, electric vehicle charging points, battery storage and heat pumps. There’s never been a better time to train as a modern electrician.

Applicants and progressing learners must have GCSE Maths at a grade 4 and GCSE English at a grade 3 as a minimum and successfully completed a Level 1 Electrical Installation qualification.

You’ll develop and showcase your practical abilities in our electrical workshop and assessment centre, alongside completing online multiple‑choice exams to confirm your understanding of electrical theory. During the course, you’ll install a variety of wiring systems and enclosures, and connect them to different types of electrical equipment. You’ll also put key health and safety practices into action, including safe isolation, risk assessment, manual handling, and the correct use of power tools, ladders, and mobile tower scaffolding.

You will undertake a minimum of two meaningful employer encounters and two employer‑led masterclasses, all designed to develop your soft and foundational skills. Throughout the course, you will partake in tailored workplace visits and industry insight events, explore specific career pathways and gain a clear understanding of workplace expectations. You will also undertake mock interviews, CV development activities and receive guidance and support from industry professionals to help you prepare for your next steps.

Successful completion of this course can lead to progression onto our Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Electrical Installation, as well as opportunities for employment or an apprenticeship.

Other Costs: Other Costs: When working in the Electrical workshops, you will need to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and a high‑visibility vest. Please make sure you have access to this equipment before starting the course, as it is essential for taking part in practical sessions safely.You may also be able to receive support through the 16–19 Bursary. This can help with the cost of kit, course‑related equipment and resources, including IT devices, connectivity and textbooks or study materials.
