Our Level 1 Plumbing course offers an ideal starting point for learners who want to begin their training and work towards a future career in the Plumbing industry. It introduces the core principles behind one of the most technical and dynamic roles in the construction industry, giving learners a clear first step into the world of plumbing. At least half of the course is spent completing practical tasks in the workshop, giving you hands‑on experience while you learn the key principles of plumbing. You will also spend dedicated time in the classroom developing your understanding of the theory to support your practical skills.
This course includes project‑based learning that embeds GCSE Maths and GCSE English directly into theoretical and practical, vocational tasks through a contextualised model. This ensures learners develop relevant, essential and applied skills that align with the expectations of the construction industry and support their long‑term progression.

You will learn how to follow health and safety practices, know and use tools and equipment for plumbing tasks, and connect using different types of plumbing materials, components and fittings. You will be able to hone your hand skills in the workshop by measuring and marking out, cutting and preparing pipework, and installing a range of basic plumbing systems and equipment. This will include a basic understanding of plumbing checks and techniques, such as flow, pressure and leak testing.

Applicants must have GCSE Maths and GCSE English at a grade 3 as a minimum
Learners progressing internally must have also successfully completed an Introduction to Construction qualification.
You will show what you’ve learned through simple written tasks, and your practical skills will be demonstrated through hands‑on activities in your workbook that link to real construction situations.
You will undertake at least two meaningful encounters with employers, giving you a genuine introduction to the world of work. Throughout the course, you will partake in workplace visits, industry insight events, employer talks and practical workshops, all designed to build your communication, problem‑solving and teamwork skills. You will also undertake focused employability activities, including CV writing, job applications and interview skills.
You will additionally partake in activities that support wellbeing and mental health, helping you build confidence, resilience and positive habits as you prepare for future study and employment.
Successful completion of this course can lead to progression onto our Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing, as well as opportunities for employment or an apprenticeship.

Other Costs: Other Costs: When working in the Plumbing workshops, you will need to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and a high‑visibility vest. Please make sure you have access to this equipment before starting the course, as it is essential for taking part in practical sessions safely.You may also be able to receive support through the 16–19 Bursary. This can help with the cost of kit, course‑related equipment and resources, including IT devices, connectivity and textbooks or study materials.
