It introduces the core principles behind one of the most technical and dynamic roles in the construction industry, giving learners a clear first step into the world of electrical installation. At least half of the course is spent completing practical tasks in the workshop, giving you hands‑on experience while you learn the key principles of electrical installation. You will also spend dedicated time in the classroom developing your understanding of the theory to support your practical skills.
This course is delivered over two evenings per week from 6 – 9pm. Teaching days vary, so please submit an application to receive full timetable details.
You will learn how to follow health and safety practices, know and use tools and equipment for wiring and terminations, and connect using different types of electrical materials, components and equipment. You will be able to hone your hand skills in the workshop by measuring and marking out, terminating a range of wiring systems to equipment and installing different wiring enclosures. This will include the basic understanding and techniques for circuit testing, including continuity, polarity and insulation resistance.
Applicants must have a basic understanding of maths and English skills; including listening, speaking, reading, writing and communication.
You will show what you’ve learned through simple written tasks, and your practical skills will be demonstrated through hands‑on activities in your workbook that link to real construction situations.
