This course provides an introduction to several key construction trades and helps learners build confidence, teamwork, and site awareness. You’ll develop essential Health & Safety knowledge, gain hands-on experience across a range of disciplines, and learn the basic tools, materials, and techniques used by professional tradespeople.
The course also supports employability by introducing construction career pathways, helping learners prepare for work or progression to further vocational training.

Health and Safety in Construction
Understand the principles of health, safety, and welfare in construction environments. Learn about site rules, PPE, hazard identification, and safe working practices.
Introduction to Bricklaying
Gain practical skills in brick and block work, mortar mixing, and basic wall construction. Learn how to measure, set out, and use bricklaying tools effectively.
Introduction to Carpentry and Joinery
Explore the basics of woodworking, including the safe use of hand tools, measuring and cutting materials, and assembling simple joinery projects.
Introduction to Plumbing
Learn about domestic plumbing systems, pipework assembly, and basic maintenance techniques in a workshop setting.
Introduction to Electrical Installation
Understand basic electrical principles, wiring methods, and safety when working with electricity. Gain practical experience in simple circuit assembly.
Introduction to Painting and Decorating
Develop surface preparation, painting, and finishing techniques. Learn how to apply paints and wall coverings safely and neatly.

• Continuous practical assessment and observation
• Completion of individual trade-based workshop tasks

After completing this programme, learners can progress to:
• Level 1 or Level 2 vocational qualifications in a chosen trade (Bricklaying, Carpentry, Plumbing, etc.)
• CSCS Card preparation courses (Funded CSCS green card through GQA)
• Employment or apprenticeships in the construction sector
