  Overview

The VTCT diploma in Hairdressing is a substantial qualification for students seeking a career as a hairstylist. You will be expected to purchase a kit and source clients for assessment.

The course covers a broad range of hairdressing skills and knowledge. It is taught by highly qualified and enthusiastic staff in realistic working environments. Many aspects of hairdressing including cutting, colouring, blow-drying , setting and dressing hair.

  • Colour and lighten hair
  • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp

Entry to this course requires requires grade 3 or above in GCSE English and Maths.

You will be required to attend an interview in which you will be expected to complete a dexterity skills assessment and an individual interview.

You will be assessed on a continual basis. Practical skills will be assessed on paying clients in a realistic working environment. You will also be assessed through online exams.

Successful completion of this course can lead to further study, apprenticeships or careers in the hairdressing industry.

If you are 19 years old or over you may need to pay fees for your Further Education studies.

Course fees depend on your age and course level.

You may be exempt from paying fees though, or eligible to pay a reduced fee – known as fee remission.

If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 and studying on a full-time or part-time Further Education course, you will not pay tuition or examination fees.

This covers all Further Education courses, functional skills for English and Maths courses.

You will need to pay for course costs such as books, stationery, special equipment, exams, registration fee, travel, meals and any other course-related activities.

Help towards these costs is available for many students.
