  Overview

This course gives you an understanding of child, young person and adult development. You will also develop knowledge in children, young people and adult health and wellbeing. You will have creative, exciting and practical opportunities to develop caring skills, through the use of interactive babies, demonstrations and creative activities.

You will develop your personal development skills, including working with others, communication, study skills and employability skills. You will also study English and Maths and have a personal tutor who will support you throughout the course. The course is highly personalised and learning activities are designed to enable you to help you achieve your goals and aspirations. You will:
  • Develop work-related skills relevant to the physical and emotional needs of young children and adults
  • Learn about dietary, exercise health and safety and emotional needs of children and adults
  • Learn about development from birth to old age and the role of the practitioner
Learners will study 3 core Employability units and 3 sector specific units over the duration of the course.  The course is based on a Programme of Study, which consists of:
  • Vocational activities linking to the chosen area of work
  • A City & Guilds Employability Award
  • Maths and English
  • A tutorial programme
  • Work experience
You will be assessed through a range of methods that include coursework, assignments and presentations.
30 hours of relevant experience of work are included in the course. Our students work in partnership with the National Citizens Service (NCS) programme which helps to develop key employment skills and behaviours needed for progression to work.
This qualification is ideal to enable learners of all abilities to access a qualification and grow in confidence. It also provides learners with a perfect opportunity to progress onto further educational pathways specialising in childcare or health and social care.
