This course is a part-time adult course for those wanting to work in the domestic electrical installation industry e.g. wiring socket and light circuits in houses.

This qualification allows you to build on previous experience, skills and knowledge to gain a qualification at an intermediate level.


  Qualification Gained: City and Guilds of London Institute Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures)

Course Content:

  • Health and safety legislation
  • How to handle hazardous situations
  • Electrical safety requirements when working in the building services industry
  • Safety requirements for working with gases and heat producing equipment
  • Safety requirements for using access equipment in the building services industry
  • Safety requirements for working safely in excavations and confined spaces in the building services industry

Entry to this course requires a minimum of grade 4 or C in GCSE Maths and English. You may also hold a qualification in Level 1 Electrical Installation.

Please note that you will be required to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and hi-vis vest when working in the College workshops.

The course is assessed by practical assessments and knowledge-based exams for each unit.

Your course may include work experience or a work placement that could lead to the offer of a part-time or casual work, or you might work outside of your studies.

Successful completion of your course can lead to further study, apprenticeships or you may progress into employment. A domestic Electrician has the potential to earn up to £40k per year.

If you are 19 years old or over you may need to pay fees for your Further Education studies.

Course fees depend on your age and course level.

You may be exempt from paying fees though, or eligible to pay a reduced fee – known as fee remission.

FE Tuition: £2,724.00 per academic year

Exam Registration: £220.00
