Building a Future in Construction: Daniel’s T Level Experience

Choosing the right career can feel like a big decision, but for Daniel, a clear inspiration at home helped set him on the right track. Now studying a T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning, Daniel is gaining hands-on experience and exploring a range of exciting opportunities within the construction industry.

Inspired to Build a Career

Daniel’s journey into construction started with a simple conversation.

“My dad said architecture is a really good profession,” he explains. “That made me start thinking about it as a career, and this course felt like the right step to get into that path.”

Since starting the course, Daniel has discovered that his options go far beyond one specific role. From architecture to quantity surveying and civil engineering, the course has opened his eyes to a variety of career routes within the industry.

Choosing Bradford College

For Daniel, studying at Bradford College was a natural choice.

“It’s local, and they offer a lot of construction courses,” he says.

The range of pathways available meant Daniel could feel confident he was starting somewhere that would support his long-term ambitions while keeping his options open.

A key part of Daniel’s T Level experience has been his industry placement with Morgan Sindall, an opportunity that has brought his studies to life.

“It’s really helped me” he says. “I started on a project and the foundations were even laid out, so I’ve seen the whole project grow as I’ve grown.”

During his placement, Daniel has experienced a wide range of roles and responsibilities. From helping plan future works to spending time with site managers and learning from a quantity surveyor, he’s gained valuable insight into how large-scale construction projects come together.

Looking Ahead

With his T Level underway, Daniel is already thinking about his next steps.

“Hopefully I can get a degree apprenticeship,” he says. “Preferably with Morgan Sindall, but if not – university and study what I enjoy most, maybe quantity surveying, civil engineering or architecture.”

His experience so far has given him both the confidence and clarity to pursue a future in the construction industry.

Advice for Future Students

Daniel is a strong advocate for T Levels, especially the opportunity to learn in a real working environment.

“It’s really fun, especially the placement side,” he says. “You’re basically working and learning at the same time. It’s far better than just sitting in a classroom.”

His advice to future students is simple:

“Try to get a placement and make the most of it, this is where you truly learn.”
