Construction T Level Students ‘Rome ‘Round Rome’ Bringing Learning to Life

Fifteen second-year T Level Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction students from Bradford College recently embarked on an unforgettable four-day educational visit to Rome, giving them the opportunity to explore world-renowned architecture, discover the history of construction, and experience international travel.

The trip was designed to bring learning to life by showcasing some of the most iconic architectural achievements in the world.

Throughout the visit, students explored how ancient construction methods continue to influence modern building practices. By experiencing Rome’s historic landmarks first-hand, they were able to connect classroom learning with real-world examples and gain a deeper understanding of the construction industry.

Exploring Rome’s Architectural Wonders

The group visited a number of famous sites, including the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Catacombs and Vatican City. Students also climbed to the top of the dome of St Peter’s Basilica and took the glass lift to the rooftop of the Vittoriano Monument, where they enjoyed panoramic views across the city. The trip was rounded off with a visit to the Spanish Steps, where students took time to soak up the atmosphere of the Italian capital.

Broadening Horizons Beyond the Classroom

For many of the students, the visit marked their first experience of travelling abroad, with some flying for the very first time.

A World of Possibilities

Speaking about the trip Kevin Fish, construction tutor, said:

“There were several reasons why I wanted to take our students to Rome. Firstly, it gave them the opportunity to explore incredible examples of architecture and construction, comparing how the ancient Romans built structures with the methods we use today. It was fascinating for them to see how many construction principles developed thousands of years ago are still relevant in the industry.

“Just as importantly, the trip allowed students to experience the world beyond Bradford. For some, it was their first time on a plane. Opportunities like this are invaluable because they broaden horizons, build confidence and encourage students to think bigger about their futures.

“The students absolutely loved the experience. We learned so much, had a fantastic time and created memories that will stay with us all for years to come. Most importantly, the trip opened their eyes to a world of possibilities.”

Creating Industry-Ready Students

The visit forms part of Bradford College’s commitment to providing students with enriching experiences beyond the classroom, helping them develop the confidence, skills and broader outlook needed for successful careers in industry.
