T Level Construction Student Looks Ahead After Completion

For Alfie, choosing a T Level in Construction: Design, Surveying & Planning at Bradford College was all about finding a route that would take him closer to the industry and help him build practical skills for the future.

Currently studying his first year, Alfie has already gained valuable insight into how major construction projects are planned, managed and delivered.

“I’ve learnt a lot about different jobs on construction sites, how teams work together, how they communicate and how money is spent in different areas to make sure projects are completed on time.”

The course has given Alfie a broader understanding of the construction sector, while the support from tutors has helped him develop both his knowledge and confidence.

“It’s a very good course. There’s lots of information and the tutors are really good at educating us.”

A Direct Route into Industry

One of the main reasons Alfie chose a T Level over A Levels was the opportunity to gain industry experience through a work placement.

“I just think it’s a better option than A Levels. It takes me straight into the industry and the work placement in the second year is a really good opportunity to get in with a company.”

As he prepares to progress into his second year, Alfie is already looking ahead to the placement element of the course and the chance to experience construction in a real working environment.

“I’m looking forward to the second year. I want to get on site and get working with my hands a bit more.”

Recognition for Success

Alfie’s hard work and commitment have not gone unnoticed. At the college’s annual student awards, he received not one but two awards in recognition of his achievements.

While he admitted he was surprised by the second award, he believes one factor has played a major role in his success.

“Attendance is key.”

Advice for Future Students

For students currently at school and considering a career in construction, Alfie has some simple advice:

“Get your Maths and English and get straight onto Level 3.”

With a passion for construction and a determination to gain hands-on industry experience, Alfie is already laying strong foundations for a successful future in the sector.
