You’ll develop and showcase your practical abilities in our brick workshop, alongside completing online multiple‑choice exams to confirm your understanding of construction theory. During the course, you’ll set out and build a variety of brick and block walling systems, learn how to mix and apply mortar, construct corners and junctions, and work to industry standard measurements and tolerances. You’ll also put key health and safety practices into action, including risk assessment, manual handling, and the correct use of hand tools and power tools.
You will undertake a minimum of two meaningful employer encounters and two employer‑led masterclasses, all designed to develop your soft and foundational skills. Throughout the course, you will partake in tailored workplace visits and industry insight events, explore specific career pathways and gain a clear understanding of workplace expectations. You will also undertake mock interviews, CV development activities and receive guidance and support from industry professionals to help you prepare for your next steps.
You’ll have the chance to explore new interests, develop valuable skills, and build lasting friendships. Getting involved in enrichment activities helps you make the most of your time at Bradford College, enhance your overall experience, and prepare for both work and life beyond your course. You’ll also have opportunities to take part in educational trips linked to your vocational pathway, giving you real‑world insight and hands‑on learning.
Other Costs: Other Costs: When working in the Bricklaying workshops, you will need to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and a high‑visibility vest. Please make sure you have access to this equipment before starting the course, as it is essential for taking part in practical sessions safely.You may also be able to receive support through the 16–19 Bursary. This can help with the cost of kit, course‑related equipment and resources, including IT devices, connectivity and textbooks or study materials.
