Bradford College 14-16 Alternative Provision Students Explore New Worlds with VR Technology

Students from Bradford College’s 14-16 Alternative Provision programme were given a glimpse into the future of learning this week as they took part in an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience designed to boost engagement, confidence, and digital skills.

The hands-on session, held at the College’s Alternative Provision Centre, introduced learners to a series of VR headsets and interactive simulations that transported them into fully realised digital environments, from virtual engineering workshops to calming wellbeing spaces.

Hassnat Yasir, Pastoral and Intervention Officer said “Our VR Identity & Gangs Awareness Session used immersive, real‑life scenarios to help Year 10 and 11 students explore the consequences of gang involvement, peer pressure, and risky decision‑making. Through powerful virtual experiences, learners were guided to reflect on identity, personal values, and the impact their choices could have on their future”

Throughout the session, pupils experimented with 360-degree scenarios, problem‑solving activities, and digital creativity tools. Many experienced a VR headset for the very first time.

Bradford College plans to continue offering VR-based activities as part of its broader commitment to innovative learning technology. The Alternative Provision team hopes the sessions will help build students’ confidence and broaden their understanding of potential future pathways.

The college is exploring how virtual reality can support subjects including construction, art and design, digital media, and health and social care. As digital skills become increasingly essential across industries, Bradford College’s investment in emerging technology marks a significant step towards giving all learners, access to the tools of the future.
