The course combines theoretical understanding with practical skills development, preparing you for both further study and workplace readiness. Like an installation electrician working in a domestic, commercial or industrial environment, you will demonstrate an understanding of electrical scientific principles, the installation of different wiring systems, enclosures and equipment, circuit theory and installation methods, electrical testing procedures and much more. On successful completion of this qualification, you will be at an Improver/Electrician’s mate level.
This course is delivered over two evenings per week from 6 – 9pm. Teaching days vary, so please submit an application to receive full timetable details.
You will learn about the importance of health and safety in the electrical industry, electrical theories including; Ohm’s Law, power equations, and resistance, the principles of alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC), electromagnetic principles and mathematical calculations for electrical installations.
You will also take advantage of learning about green skills and sustainability with a big focus on smart technology, energy efficiency and an awareness of solar pv, electric vehicle charging points, battery storage and heat pumps. There’s never been a better time to train as a modern electrician.
Learners progressing internally must have completed the Level 1 Electrical Installation qualification at Bradford College and have a sufficient understanding of maths and English skills; including listening, speaking, reading, writing and communication.
You’ll develop and showcase your practical abilities in our electrical workshop and assessment centre, alongside completing online multiple‑choice exams to confirm your understanding of electrical theory. During the course, you’ll install a variety of wiring systems and enclosures, and connect them to different types of electrical equipment. You’ll also put key health and safety practices into action, including safe isolation, risk assessment, manual handling, and the correct use of power tools, ladders, and mobile tower scaffolding.
Your course may include work experience or a work placement that could lead to the offer of a part-time or casual work, or you might work outside of your studies.
Successful completion of this course can lead to progression onto our Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation, as well as opportunities for employment or an apprenticeship.
