This qualification is ideal for you if you are considering a career in engineering and will provide a basic understanding of fabrication and welding principles.

What You Will Learn
At Level 1, you will learn how to weld using different equipment and a range of materials.
Modules
To earn this qualification, you must complete a range of mandatory and optional units, including:
- Working in engineering
- Carrying out MIG welding processes
- Carrying out TIG welding processes
Entry Requirements
Entry to this course requires GCSE English and Maths at a grade 2 or E.
Assessment
You will be assessed for the Working in Engineering unit by an online multi-chioice exam. The other units will be assessed in the workshop carrying out fabrication and welding tasks and a short answer test paper
Work Experience
Your course may include work experience or a work placement that could lead to the offer of a part-time or casual work, or you might work outside of your studies. Our students benefit from local site visits and trips to construction companies, such as our award-winning local partner Priestley Construction.
Progression
Successful completion of this course can lead to progression to further study or employment in the Engineering sector in a Welding related role.

If you are 19 years old or over you may need to pay fees for your Further Education studies.
Course fees depend on your age and course level.
You may be exempt from paying fees though, or eligible to pay a reduced fee – known as fee remission.
