Bradford College Tops the Table in Nationwide Competition

Heading into the Easter break, Bradford College sits in first place out of all the colleges competing in the Planet Earth Games.

Planet Earth Games aims to support climate action through sport and physical activity, in an innovative model where institutions of all types battle it out to help save the planet.

The Games run from January to April and as we head into the final straight, Bradford College is just over 1000 points clear in the Further Education leaderboard.

Speaking about the importance of the Games, Chelsie Naylor (Sustainability Lead), said: “We’re at the start of our sustainability journey at the College and this competition has started the conversation about climate change, sparking an interest in small, local action.

“By taking part in challenges, staff and students are engaging with environmental issues in a positive and tangible way; this often feels more empowering than signing a petition or sharing something on social media – it’s real action.”

By signing up to the initiative, competitors – in our case students and staff – are encouraged to take part in various challenges of all different types to earn points for their wider team. These include activities like tree planting, litter picking and green commuting. Some of the most notable efforts from College students so far have included a climate march conducted with the SU and a huge community clean up from our ESOL department.

On top of the competitive element, people have the chance to do their bit to save the planet, get involved in social environments and raise the sustainability profile of the College.

“Winning the Planet Earth Games would put Bradford College on the map and put us at the heart of conversations with other colleges nationally”, Chelsie continued.

“Although we’re all in it together when it comes to environmental action, lots of people at College have enjoyed the competitive aspect of the games and it would be amazing for us to be recognised.”

It’s not too late to get involved and help us get our hands on the trophy come the end of April! Sign up FREE and start earning us points here: https://planetearthgames.org/
