  Overview

This Level 1 qualification is for anyone who wants to work as a plumber in the building services engineering sector. You will learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the plumbing sector.

It is practical based with classroom theory sessions, so while you learn the key information you will also to put your skills into practise. Studying in our excellent facilities means that you are prepared for your next steps, whether you move onto further study or employment.

You will learn about common plumbing processes helping to developing your foundation knowledge and skills. You will study central heating systems, draining systems, electrical principles and health and safety in building services engineering. 

On this course, you will develop both practical skills and knowledge to prepare you for work and further study in the plumbing and engineering sector.

Entry to this course requires a minimum of a grade 4 in GCSE Maths and English.

The course is assessed by practical assessments and online exams for each unit. You will also carry out an assessment which requires you to install a bathroom suite.

Your course may include work experience or a work placement that could lead to the offer of a part-time or casual work, or you might work outside of your studies. Our students benefit from local site visits and trips to construction companies.

After successful completion of the course, you will be prepared to move into further study or employment in plumbing and construction.

If you are 19 years old or over you may need to pay fees for your Further Education studies.

Course fees depend on your age and course level.

You may be exempt from paying fees though, or eligible to pay a reduced fee – known as fee remission.

If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 and studying on a full-time or part-time Further Education course, you will not pay tuition or examination fees.

This covers all Further Education courses, functional skills for English and Maths courses.

You will need to pay for course costs such as books, stationery, special equipment, exams, registration fee, travel, meals and any other course-related activities.

Help towards these costs is available for many students.
