Claire Brown

Previous Experience
Claire is Programme Leader for the blended delivery and lecturer for the Ophthalmic Dispensing Courses at Bradford College, having first taught here in 2014. She now works permanently on the department as a permanent 0.8 lecturer. A former student of Bradford College, qualifying as a Dispensing Optician in 2013, Claire has over 13 years of experience working in mainly independent practices, doing management training and running peer reviews.

David Anthony

David Anthony

Previous Experience
David joined the Ophthalmic Dispensing team in 2025 as part-time Lecturer. He qualified as a Dispensing Optician in London in 1996 and gained his Contact Lens Diploma in 2000. David graduated in Optometry at Bradford University in 2007. With nearly 30 years optical experience in both retail and hospital environments, David has a particular interest in Refraction, Contact Lenses and Visual Optics.

Dean Dunning

Previous Experience
Dean Dunning is a lecturer for the Contact Lens Certificate course. Dean also works as the Chief Examiner in Contact Lenses and Deputy Head or Professional Qualifications and Examinations for ABDO, with over 25 years’ experience in optics. A former student of the college, qualifying as a dispensing optician in 1999, Dean joined the college as a lecturer in 2007. Dean has completed his Masters in Education qualification, specialising in ICT and e-learning. Dean is also the Chair of the British & Irish University and College Contact Lens Educators (BUCCLE), a fellow of both the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) and International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) and a member of the General Optical Council (GOC) Education committee

Jane Timms

Jane Timms

Previous Experience
Jane Timms is Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Ophthalmic Dispensing Degree course and admissions tutor. Jane is a programme lecturer in Ophthalmic Dispensing, Programme Tutor for the BSc (Hons) Ophthalmic Dispensing degree and a personal tutor. Jane has over 25 years of retail experience, with over 15 of these in the field of optics. A former student of Bradford College, Jane joined the teaching staff for ophthalmic dispensing in 2002. Jane teaches a wide range of subjects to students on both the BSc and the FdSc programmes. Jane has achieved her Master’s in Education. Jane is external examiner for City and Islignton College and Anglia Ruskin University and is also a practical examiner for the Association of British Dispensing Opticians.

Lindsey Dunning

Lindsey Dunning

Previous Experience
Lindsey is Programme Leader for the Contact Lens Certificate as well as a lecturer for the Ophthalmic Dispensing Courses at Bradford College. A former student of Bradford College, Lindsey joined the lecturing team in 2016 and specialises in Ocular Anatomy, Pathology and Contact Lens modules. Lindsey is a Dispensing Optician and Contact Lens Optician and has worked in practice for over 25 years for Boots, Specsavers and more recently, Vision Express. Lindsey is also the Principal Examiner in Contact Lens Anatomy for the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO).

Liz Lund

Liz Lund

Previous Experience
Liz is a lecturer on the Contact Lens Certificate and Ophthalmic Dispensing Courses at Bradford College. A former student of Bradford College, qualifying as a Dispensing Optician in 2005 and Contact Lens Optician in 2009. Liz has over 20 years of experience working in multiple and independent practices and for 10 years as a Clinic Supervisor at Bradford University. Liz has also worked for ABDO as a Distance Learning Tutor and presently as a CPD Facilitator.

Mark Hickton

Mark Hickton

Previous Experience
Mark Hickton has been with Bradford College as a lecturer on the Ophthalmic Dispensing team since 2007, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Mark has worked in the optical industry since 1997, and qualified as a dispensing optician in 2006. Along with his qualification in Ophthalmic Dispensing Mark also has a strong background in physics, with a BSc (Hons) in Physics with Astrophysics. Mark has gained a PTLLS qualification and Certificate in Education award, and a certificate in Visual Perception and the Brain, and is currently conducting research around the area of visual perception, vision in nature, and cross-sensory perception. Over the last 9 years, Mark has had articles published in Dispensing Optics, Optician and Optometry Today.

Maryna Hura

Previous Experience
Maryna Hura has been with Bradford College as a part-time lecturer on the Ophthalmic Dispensing team since 2008. She now works permanently on the department as a permanent 0.6 lecturer, and is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Maryna is also a qualified Dispensing Optician, qualifying in 2007, and currently works in Boots Opticians on a part time basis. Maryna is also a committee member on the Leeds Local Optical Committee and an EVP member with the GOC. Along with her qualification in Ophthalmic Dispensing with Management and her PGCE in teaching, Maryna has also achieved a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics with Open University, as well as Level 1 and Level 2 in BSL. Over the past three years she has had four articles published online and in Dispensing Optics.

Michelle Le Roche

Michelle Le Roche

Previous Experience
Michelle joined the Ophthalmic Dispensing team as a part time lecturer in October 2024. Michelle started her studies at Bradford College in 1993 and went straight on to study Optometry at the University of Bradford, graduating in 1998. During her pre-registration year Michelle returned to Bradford College to lecture Visual Optics and the anomalies of Binocular Vision. Since becoming a registered Optometrist in 1999 she has worked for both multiple and independent practices. In recent years Michelle has worked primarily in the private sector including vision correction alongside cataract pre and post operative care at a private ophthalmology clinic.
Mussarrat Shaheen

Mussarrat Shaheen
Previous Experience
Mussarrat specialises in the promotion of academic skills. She has worked in various Higher Education institutions and is passionate about facilitating academic progression.
Mussarrat has a profound interest in online pedagogy. In addition to providing optional online academic skills tutorials, she also produces accessible asynchronous resources to empower learners in developing their academic skills. She is also a longstanding proponent of Connectivism theory. Mussarrat will provide support in developing critical thinking and academic writing skills; students are encouraged to contact Mussarrat for an appointment via MS Teams to book appointments when required.

Nick Walker

Nick Walker

Previous Experience
Nick is the Head of School of Ophthalmic Dispensing. He began his career in optics in 2012. Studying Ophthalmic Dispensing at Bradford College, whilst working at an independent optician in Halifax. Following qualification in 2015, Nick took the role of Business Development Manager with Hoya Lens UK providing CPD and support to many practices across Yorkshire and Lancashire. He then returned to practice as a Dispensing Optician/Practice manager covering all aspects of being part of a successful independent optical practice including running a low vision clinic.

Paula Perrott

Previous Experience
Paula is one of our lecturers, having first taught here in 2019. Paula has over 20 years of retail experience, with 9 of these in the field of Optics. A former student of Bradford College, Paula graduated as a Dispensing Optician in 2018 and managed an Independent Practice, specialising in patients with brain injuries, field defects and various processing difficulties.
