School of Art vibrant End of Year Show draws over 200 visitors
The Bradford School of Art was in full swing on Friday night as students from across textiles, fashion, art, media makeup and creative media courses shared their work, inspiration and talents with members of the public, fellow students, staff, friends and family.
Over 200 people attended the Summer Show, held in the historic Lister Building, home of the Bradford School of Art at Bradford College.
Highlights of the show included the Fashion Shows at 6pm and 8pm where BA (Hons) Fashion students presented their collections.
One collection, “I prefer living in colour” was a gender-neutral range of contemporary twin sets taking influence from the Bradford born and alumni of Bradford School of Art David Hockney, with fabrics sponsored by Brook Taverner.
Amongst the talented designers was Saaba Masood whose streetwear collection drew inspiration from Japanese Fashion, promising wearability for a diverse range of individuals.
Kainat Ziaba’s collection invited the crowd to step into a world where magic meets haute couture, blending the vibrant universe of the Winx Club cartoon with the timeless elegance of Christian Dior.
Iqra Mahmood created a fusion collection inspired by Barbie and Bollywood, bringing vibrant and diverse styles of South Asian culture.
Claire Rhodes, a Foundation Degree in Textiles Practice student exhibited her work entitled “Juxta Position” which explores natural forms.
The teaching and support from the College and lecturers have been amazing and has stretched me in ways I could have never imagined. They have really pushed me out of my comfort zone creatively, and it’s been absolutely brilliant.
Leon Ivic, a Media Makeup and Special Effects student, highlighted the professional growth and skills he gained during his studies. “I’ve learnt a lot about professionalism, branding, and just general improvement in my work – looking at workspace, safety in working with materials.”
The event was a celebration of creativity and innovation, providing a platform for students to demonstrate their skills and hard work. Canapes and drinks were served to visitors and guests throughout the evening by students and hospitality staff.
Leanne Burnley, Head of the School of Art, remarked
“The Summer Show is a testament to the incredible talent and dedication of our students. It is a celebration of their creative journey and a showcase of their hard work and innovation. We are immensely proud of their achievements and excited to see the impact they will make in the world of art and design.”
