Music Student’s Song Selected for Prestigious London Show

A Bradford School of Art music student has been selected for ‘Origins Creatives’ – an arts showcase taking place at the Mall Galleries, London.

Faye Quirie’s song titled Porphyria is based on the poem ‘Porphyria’s Lover’ by Robert Browning. It caught the attention of UAL Awarding Body’s curator, Charlie Levine, amongst over 500 submissions.

Origins Creatives is a free exhibition that is organised by UAL Awarding Body. This event offers a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts, critics, and industry professionals to discover original talent and celebrate the hard work of young creatives from across the UK and internationally.

Faye wrote and recorded the song as part of her Level 2 Diploma in Music, Performance, and Production course at Bradford College. It will be presented at the exhibition alongside creative work from across UAL subject areas.

Faye said:

Gothic music is often about dark romanticism and is influenced by literature, so I went down the same route. I took inspiration from the poem, alongside “Spellbound” by Siouxsie and the Banshees. The song marks the end of my first academic year in college and has allowed me to showcase the abilities I’ve gained and improved over this year.

Nicolas Sykes, Bradford College Music Programme Leader for Further Education, added:

Faye’s hard work, dedication, and creativity have earned her a place among the best music students in the UK. This is a wonderful opportunity for her to showcase her talent and celebrate her achievements at the Mall Galleries.

Origins Creatives provides a platform for emerging talent to connect with potential collaborators, industry leaders, and a wider audience. The exhibition highlights the exceptional work of students from across the UK.

Work will be exhibited and played across UAL subject areas, including Art and Design, Fashion Business and Retail, Creative Media, Music Performance and Production, Performing Arts, Entry Level 3 in Art and Design and Performing Arts, Professional Diplomas, and the Extended Project Qualification.

This year, Origins Creatives is an in-person exhibition at the Mall Galleries in central London. The exhibition will launch with an invite-only opening night on Tuesday 16th July at 6pm. It will then be open to the public from Wednesday 17th – Saturday 20th July, alongside an online platform.

The exhibition will showcase a diverse range of painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, fashion and more, created by students from entry level and levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 across all subject areas.
