Job Wel-done for Engineering Students at G&H

Bradford College Engineering students recently had the exciting opportunity to take part in an exclusive industry experience day at employer partner, G&H.

The special event saw G&H shut down their factory for the day, giving Level 1 and 2 students an immersive, hands-on insight into the world of fabrication and welding.

Throughout the day, Bradford College students worked alongside company staff members to learn a range of techniques and gain valuable practical skills.

Speaking about the unique experience, James Haigh (Business Development & Engagement Manager) said: “Our partnership with G&H, managed by James Sherburn and Katie Hardisty, is highly valuable to the College. Collaborations on our pre-employment programmes, including vital days like this, directly address local skills shortages and provide crucial career pathways to Bradford College students.”

A key focus of the day was mastering TIG welding, a highly-skilled and precise method used in the engineering industry, with students putting their newly-learnt knowledge to the test in a practical welding competition.

James Sherburn (Engineering Director, G&H) said: “G&H is committed to helping the next generation secure employment in the engineering industry, with a key part of our approach being collaboration with training partners to provide workshops and work experience. All the students who attended this offsite fabrication workshop were a credit to Bradford College, impressing our team with their welding skills and keen interest in the industry.”

It was Megan Morris (Level 1 Engineering student) who triumphed in the competition set up by G&H, earning herself a week-long work experience placement at the company. Megan has also been offered an apprenticeship opportunity, dependent on the successful completion of her placement.

Are you interested in real-world engineering experiences? At Bradford College, we work with a range of partners like G&H to give students incredible opportunities to grow and develop their skills.
