Bradford College supports Construction Students by bringing Sustainability to Bradshaw Primary

Yesterday, a group of Construction learners from Trinity Academy Halifax, supported by Bradford College, spent the day building and installing a brand new sandpit at Bradshaw Primary School, all from recycled materials.

Led by Bradford College Construction Lecturer Gareth Bowman, the group worked hands on to design and assemble the sandpit using repurposed wooden pallets. Once completed, the sandpit was installed in the school’s outdoor play area, ready to be enjoyed by children in the nursery and reception classes.

Gareth Bowman praised the learners’ efforts and the spirit of the project:
“A group of fellow students and I worked together to build a sandpit using recycled pallets, combining teamwork with sustainable practices. We donated the finished sandpit to Bradshaw School, where it will be used by children in the nursery and reception classes. It was a rewarding experience to create something fun and useful for younger learners while promoting reuse and community spirit.”

This isn’t the first time Bradford College learners have supported Bradshaw Primary. Previously, students have built and donated a series of bird boxes to the school, helping to enhance the outdoor learning environment and local wildlife.

The project gave students valuable practical experience, while also reinforcing the importance of sustainability and giving back to the community.

Well done to everyone involved!
