Bradford College Receives Donation of Human Hair to Support Media Make-up Students

Bradford College’s Media Make-up department has received a generous donation of human hair from HB Collective UK, providing students with high-quality materials for wig-making, prosthetics, and character design projects.

The donation, made possible by HB Collective UK and its network of local salons and volunteers, will allow Media Make-up students to work with authentic human hair, a vital resource for training in styling, ventilating, and applying wigs and hairpieces. These skills are essential for careers in film, television, theatre, and fashion industries.

This donation is a fantastic opportunity for our students,” said Jasmin Young, Programme Leader for Media Make-up at Bradford College. “Working with real human hair helps them develop advanced, professional-level techniques and gain confidence in industry-standard practices.

The initiative also highlights Bradford College’s commitment to sustainability. By repurposing donated human hair, the College reduces waste while providing students with real-world resources for creative projects.

Bradford College expressed its gratitude to HB Collective UK for their support. Matt Nowell, Head of Creative Industries, said, “Partnerships like this show the power of collaboration between local independent businesses and educational institutions in nurturing the next generation of creative professionals with al leading hair extension brands.”

Jasmin Young, Technician, said “We will use this human hair to create forms of postiche such as hand-knotted mustaches and sideburns, and to turn some of the wefts into creative hairpieces with our students. This allows them to experiment with intricate styling techniques, explore character design in a hands-on way, and push their creative boundaries using authentic materials. Having real hair for these projects is invaluable as it gives students the tactile experience and realism that synthetic alternatives simply cannot replicate.
