Bradford College Collaborates with Bradford Manufacturing Week to Promote Sustainability and Clean Energy
Bradford College was proud to take part in this year’s Bradford Manufacturing Week, an initiative that celebrates and promotes careers in manufacturing across the region. As part of our involvement, we collaborated with Ilkley Grammar School to deliver a unique and innovative educational experience focused on sustainability, clean energy, and cutting-edge technology.
During the week, students from Ilkley Grammar School will join Bradford College students for a hands-on workshop exploring the future of green technology through hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The workshop aims to spark curiosity, develop practical STEM skills, and deepen students’ understanding of the role clean energy can play in shaping a more sustainable future.
The highlight of the session saw students working together to design and build their own miniature hydrogen-powered cars. Using real hydrogen fuel cells, the students explored how this emerging technology works and how it could revolutionise transportation and energy consumption in the years to come.
By promoting sustainability and innovation in such a practical and engaging way, Bradford College is helping to inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, and green technology advocates. The initiative aligns with the College’s broader commitment to environmental responsibility and preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow’s workforce.
Stephen Smith (Head of Engineering and Motor Vehicle) said “I’m really proud and excited that we are once again sponsoring and actively supporting Bradford Manufacturing Week. This initiative perfectly aligns with our mission of Transforming lives with the addition of inspiring the next generation of engineers through education and real industry experiences. Hosting school events and activities on our campus allows young people to engage directly with cutting-edge technology, meet our expert staff, and experience what a career in engineering and manufacturing can offer. We’re proud to play a part in developing local talent and strengthening Bradford’s reputation as a hub of innovation and opportunity.”
Through this exciting collaboration, Bradford College, Ilkley Grammar School, and Bradford Manufacturing Week are empowering young people with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration to help drive a cleaner, greener future.
