  Overview

If you are thinking of joining the motor industry, it is now more important than ever that you have the right qualifications which are based on industry’s requirements. This Award will provide you with a knowledge and understanding of Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Light Vehicles) and build on the skills developed at Level 1.

The course is based on sound technical craft ability, supported by relevant theoretical studies. Our aim is to enable you to gain essential experience and the knowledge, practical skills and technology in vehicle, mechanical and electrical systems. You will learn about removing and re-fitting vehicle components as well as completing practical tasks in the college’s motor vehicle workshops as well as taking part in classroom-based activities.

  • Supporting Job roles in the Automotive Work Environment
  • Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices in the Automotive Environment
  • Routine Light Vehicle Maintenance

16-18:

Entry to this course requires GCSE English and Maths at a grade 3. You will need to have completed the Level 1 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance.

For students who have achieved a grade 4 in English Language and Maths, there is a fast track route to Level 2 available. This means they can skip Level 1 and go directly onto level 2.

19+:

No specific qualifications however you will need to have proficient knowledge in English and Maths.

 

 

Assessment includes practical tasks, oral/written questions as well as online tests.

A Level 2 qualification can lead to further study on a Level 3 Diploma or an automotive apprenticeship. Careers can include:

  • Car Valeting
  • Light Vehicle Service Technician
  • FastFit/Tyre Technician

If you are 16 to 18 years old you won’t have to pay tuition fees. If you’re 19 or older you may need to pay a fee.
