This course is the second year specialist pathway from the Higher National Certificate in Computing for England.

This course has been designed in partnership with employers recruiting in these areas, so the skills and knowledge that you develop on the course will pave the way for your future in tech.

You will learn the essentials in programming, computer networking and database design and development. Through working on your own computing project, you will showcase the skills and ideas you have developed on the course.

Students who have recently been in education are likely to need:

  • a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Art and Design or Media
  • a GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or in more than one GCE subject. This is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C (or equivalent) and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as Maths and English
  • other related Level 3 qualifications
  • an Access to Higher Education Diploma from an approved further education institution
  • relevant work experience

Assessment includes assignments (practical or written).

Although this course does not directly offer work experience, there are opportunities for you to undertake a work placement or work experience during your time studying on this course.

Additionally, practical and hands-on skills have been built into the design of this course meaning that you will have the opportunity to use relevant contexts, scenarios and materials to enable you to develop a portfolio of evidence demonstrating the breadth of their skills and knowledge in a way that equips you for employment.

Successful completion of this course can lead to degree-level study or employment in the software development industry.

Full-time: £8,000.
