Diplomas in Teaching ESOL and Literacy…These are valuable in-service courses for existing Skills for Life teachers in…
This Level 1 qualification enables you to learn and develop practical skills required to complete common tasks in plumbing.
It is practical based with classroom theory sessions.
Attendance is two evenings per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) or all day Friday for 36 weeks.
The course is assessed by continuous practical assessments with written knowledge questioning for each unit.
You will be interviewed to assess your suitability for the course.
You will also take an assessment for English and Maths.
You must achieve a minimum of Entry Level 3 in both subjects.
Much like electrical installation, you can chose to work for yourself; fitting central heating, repairing boilers and putting new bathrooms in - or you can take advantage of our partnerships with utilities companies and go to the industrial side of things and specialise in fitting pipework that needs a crane to lift it!
With a big focus on energy efficiency and the environment, there's never been a better time to train as a modern plumber.
You will be required to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and hi-vis vest when working in the College workshops. Successful completion of a Level 1 course can lead onto Level 2 and 3 courses. Your course may include work experience or a work placement that could lead to the offer of a part-time or casual work, or you might work outside of your studies. A plumber has the potential to earn anywhere between £12K and £40 per year. Career opportunities are available through large contractors and smaller specialist employers in the public and private sectors. You could also train to become your own boss and become self-employed. Our students benefit from local site visits and trips to construction companies, such as our award-winning local partner Priestley Construction.
