Course overview

What does this qualification cover?

This qualification covers a range of key subject areas in health and social care and early years combined so is ideal for those school leavers who need to retake their GCSE maths and English alongside a vocational qualification in either health & Social Care or Early Years

Additionally, running alongside the Health and Social Care Course we will deliver A Level 2 Award in Nutrition and Health.

This qualification will:

increase understanding of the principles of healthy eating and the role of food in maintaining health • increase confidence in planning and achieving a healthy diet • provide an understanding of how an individual’s dietary requirements change throughout their life • raise awareness of the dietary requirements of particular individuals • provide an understanding of food labelling and the ability to use information from food labels • provide a basis for further study and/or career development.

  • understand how to communicate effectively in a health and social care setting

Which type of job roles can you apply for on completion?

This qualification does not provide a licence to practise, but may support progression into a range of job roles in the Health and Social Care sector or Early Years including:

• Care support workers in adult residential settings • Healthcare assistants in community, primary care and acute health environments • Care support workers in domiciliary services, supported living or day services • Community-based support workers

Online Portfolio based / course work

Entry requirements

A combination of Grades 2 or 3 in Maths and English.

Work experience

30 hours.

Next steps

This qualification provides direct progression to our Level 3 Award, Certificate and Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or Early Years dependent on GCSE grades. Learners can also progress onto further learning at Level 3 and above.
