Course overview

This Level 1 qualification will develop your knowledge of the different types of services in the Health, Social Care and Children and Young People’s sectors.

It is aimed at those who wish to develop an understanding of these settings before deciding whether working in the sector is appropriate.

This qualification will allow you to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in the sectors and will provide opportunities for the development of transferable skills and progression to higher qualifications.

You will attend College for up to five days per week and may have the opportunity of work experience in the summer term.

What you'll study

In this course you will cover:

  • Level 1 Award in Children and Young People’s Settings
  • Level 1 Award in Personal and Social development
  • English and Maths

As part of the course you will learn about service provision and the principles and values within early years.

You will learn by a variety of methods which may include:

  • Class discussions
  • Workshops
  • Case studies
  • Class activities
  • Role play
  • Assignments

You will develop employability skills with sessions covering job applications, CV and interview skills and look at personal social development with an emphasis on self-reflection.

  • Tutors with experience of working in the field of Health & Care
  • No examinations – you’ll do assignments instead
  • Support with assignments
  • Access to a brilliant enrichment programme
  • In this course you will cover:

Assessment

Each unit is assessed through a unit assignment.

Tasks within these assignments vary and you will be assessed using methods such as:

  • written work
  • posters
  • verbal questioning
  • portfolio building

Next steps

On completion of the course you will be in a position to progress to a Level 2 course such as:

  • Introduction to Early Years and Education
  • Certificate in Early Years and Primary Settings
  • Health and Social Care
  • An apprenticeship
