Course overview

This course gives you an understanding of child and young person and adult development.

You will also develop knowledge in children, young people and adult health and wellbeing.

You will have creative, exciting and practical opportunities to develop caring skills, through the use of interactive babies, demonstrations and creative activities.

What you'll study

As part of the course, you will develop your personal development skills, including working with others, communication, study skills and employability skills. You will also study English and Maths and have a personal tutor who will support you throughout the course. The course is highly personalised. Learning activities are designed to enable you to work towards individualised targets that are meaningful and in keeping with your own goals and aspirations. You will:
  • develop work-related skills relevant to the physical and emotional needs of young children and adults
  • learn about dietary, exercise health and safety and emotional needs of children and adults
  • learn about development from birth to old age and the role of the practitioner

30 hours of relevant experience of work are included in the course.

This qualification is ideal to enable learners of all abilities to access a qualification and grow in confidence. It also provides learners with a perfect opportunity to progress onto further educational pathways specialising in childcare or health and social care.

The course is based on a Programme of Study, which consists of: Vocational activities linking to the chosen area of work; a City & Guilds Employability Award, maths and English, a tutorial programme and work experience. Learners will study three core Employability units and three sector specific units over the duration of the course.

Assessment

You will be assessed through a range of methods that include coursework, assignments and presentations.

Entry requirements

Entry 3: There are no entry requirements for this level apart from an interest in the specified subject and the ability to commit to positive behaviours and attendance.

English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

Work experience

There will be opportunities for experience of work - 30 hours experience of work.

Tuition fees

If you are aged 19+ and studying a Further Education Course at Bradford College, you may have to pay course fees. Course fees are dependent on the number of hours and which course is being taken. Actual costs can be obtained from our team.
