What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship combines work and study by mixing on the job training with classroom learning. You will be employed to do a real job, earning a wage, while you also study for a formal qualification, which will usually involve one day per week either at college or a training centre.

Do I get paid?

Yes, the minimum wage for apprentices aged is £4.30 per hour. However, depending on your age and length of apprenticeship, you may earn more as you progress through your apprenticeship. If you are an apprentice aged 19+ you will be paid at least £4.30 per hour for the first year and then this will rise to National Minimum Wage. If you are already employed and start an apprenticeship, your wage should not change.

Do I have to pay anything to become an apprentice?

No there is no cost to you as an individual, while you are on an apprenticeship your employer pays you a salary and supports you while you undertake your training.

If you are 16 to 18 years old, all your training is funded. However, if you are aged 19 or older your employer will need to contribute toward your training fees.

How many hours a week do I have to work?

You will be expected to work for a minimum of 30 hours a week, which includes your time spent at college.

Is there an age limit for apprenticeships?

No, there is no upper age limit and to start an apprenticeship you need to be at least 16.

How long does an apprenticeship take?

The length of an apprenticeship varies depending the apprenticeship you have chosen, your prior skill levels, and experience. Generally, the apprenticeships that we offer take between one and four years to complete.

What time of year can I start?

We are proud to boast a roll on roll off curriculum which means all apprenticeships can begin at any point within the year.

Can I do an apprenticeship with my current employer?

Yes, if your employer agrees, you can become an apprentice where you work now.
