Tishe Ilelaiwo has shown remarkable determination throughout her T-Level in Engineering Design and Manufacturing at Bradford College. Balancing the demands of a challenging course, an industry placement and personal responsibilities, she has consistently pushed herself to achieve her goals, earning recognition with two awards, including the Department Inspiration Award.
When she first started the course, Tishe quickly realised the level of commitment it would require. “At first it was quite hard, and it’s still really hard,” she said. “It’s just pure determination that’s pulling me through.”
After relocating to the UK just three years ago, Tishe adapted to a new environment and education system while maintaining strong results in both her exams and project work. Her positive attitude, determination and willingness to keep moving forward have made her a standout student.
Winning two awards was an unexpected but proud moment. “I was really surprised,” she said. “I feel really honoured that people think so highly of me, and I’m really happy.”
Finding Motivation and Purpose
For Tishe, success has been about far more than qualifications and awards. Having moved to the UK with her family, she was determined to make the most of every opportunity and set a positive example for those around her.
“First, it’s my family,” she explained. “We came over to this country three years ago, and I want to be the best I can be so my family know that they can be the best they can be too.”
That motivation helped her navigate the challenges of balancing her studies, industry placement and personal life.
“It was hard juggling placement, the course and my personal life,” she said. “But eventually I got the hang of it, and that was really nice.”
Turning Hard Work into Opportunity
One of the highlights of Tishe’s course was her industry placement, where she gained valuable experience in a real engineering environment. The opportunity allowed her to build confidence, apply her skills and gain insight into the sector.
Her dedication made such a strong impression that Powell, the company where she completed her placement, offered her an apprenticeship before she had even finished her course.
“I’m really happy,” she said.
Securing an apprenticeship before completing her studies reflects the professionalism, commitment and work ethic she has demonstrated throughout her time at Bradford College.
Growing in Confidence
Alongside developing her engineering, Tishe has grown in confidence, independence and self-belief. Despite the challenges of the course, she embraced every opportunity to learn and improve, earning the respect of both her tutors and peers.
Just as importantly, she has built lasting friendships along the way.
“I’ve met a lot of beautiful people in this college and on this course,” she said. “I wish them all the best in the future. I’ll make sure to visit and keep in touch.”
For Tishe, the course has been an opportunity to challenge herself, build meaningful relationships and discover what she is truly capable of achieving.
From overcoming challenges to securing an apprenticeship, Tishe has already achieved so much during her time at Bradford College. Equipped with valuable skills, industry experience and a clear career path, she is ready to embrace the opportunities ahead.
Her advice to future students is simple: “You always have to be consistent. There’s going to be a lot that happens and tries to make you stop.” Her experience is a powerful reminder that with determination, hard work and belief in yourself, even the most ambitious goals can become a reality.
