Halimah’s journey into education is defined by resilience, determination and a deep appreciation for the power of learning.
Currently studying the Access to HE – Allied Health Professions course at Bradford College, she has been recognised with a STAR Award for her outstanding commitment and academic excellence. With a clear ambition to build a career in radiography, Halimah is using education as a powerful stepping stone to rebuild her future and create new opportunities for herself and her family.
Halimah describes her route into education as a little different from most. “I came to the UK and started my education through ESOL,” she explained. “Coming from a background where opportunities to learn were limited, I’ve always known how valuable education is. For me, it’s a chance to rebuild my future and work towards goals I couldn’t pursue before.”
Discovering a Passion for Radiography
Returning to education helped Halimah discover her passion for radiography and set her on a clear path towards her future career. Through the Access to HE – Allied Health Professions course, she is building the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to progress into a healthcare degree and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
A Supportive Environment at Bradford College
Bradford College has been a huge part of Halimah’s journey, giving her a place where she feels supported, valued and able to grow. “It’s become so much more than just a place to study,” she said. “It feels like a second home. I’ve grown both personally and academically, and the support from tutors and staff has helped me believe in myself and keep pushing forward.”
Overcoming Challenges and Growing in Confidence
She also reflects positively on the course itself, describing it as both challenging and rewarding. While it has pushed her academically, the consistent encouragement from her tutors has helped her stay motivated and focused on her goals. “The course has been challenging but very rewarding,” she explained. “My tutors are always kind and encouraging, and I truly believe their support has helped me get to this stage.”
Taking the Next Step Towards University
Halimah has ambitious plans for the future, with her sights firmly set on studying Radiography at university. She has already secured offers from the University of Bradford and the University of Huddersfield, choosing Bradford as her firm choice so she can continue building her future close to home.
“As a parent of a child with special needs, studying locally is very important to me,” she explained. “Bradford allows me to balance my studies with my family responsibilities while continuing to work towards my future in radiography.”
Inspiring Others to Take That First Step
Halimah’s message to anyone considering returning to education is both powerful and inspiring: “Take that step. No matter your background, it is never too late to start.
