Industry Experts Inspire Construction Students at Bradford College

Construction students at our Trinity Green building, enjoyed a hands-on learning experience as industry professionals showcased the latest tools, technology and career pathways within the sector. The trades fair aimed to encourage students to think about their future and explore the range of opportunities available to them.

The showcase included one of the UK’s leading wholesalers, CEF (City Electrical Factors) and focused mainly on electrical and joinery trades, with CEF suppliers demonstrating equipment commonly used in the industry. Exhibitors highlighted products such as safety gear and testing equipment, giving students a first-hand look at the equipment they may soon be using.

CEF’s Account Manager, Paul Rawson, said the day was a valuable chance to connect with future electricians and tradespeople.

“We’ve hosted a trade day at Bradford College, and it’s been incredibly busy,” he said. “Lots of students have come over to see what we offer and learn about the tools they’ll be using in whichever direction their careers take them. We hope they got a lot from it.”

Work Experience Officer, Katie Priestley, noted how much the event has grown since its launch.
“The showcase has really expanded since last year’s first tradeshow,” she said. “Students are getting so much out of speaking directly with industry experts. We’re already planning to grow the event further next year and make it an annual fixture.”

Students also felt the event had a positive impact. A Level 1 Electrical Installation student said:
“We should definitely do more events like this. Everyone I’ve spoken to has learned a lot. It would be great to have the employers come back and give talks.”

Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Electrical Installations student, Ethan Bentley-Smith added:
“There’s so much to learn, and I’ve seen a lot of equipment that’s new to me. It’s been really insightful. I’m hoping to progress onto an apprenticeship with the college and become a fully qualified electrician. This event has shown me what opportunities are out there.”

With plans already underway for next year’s event, Bradford College continues to strengthen links between students and employers, ensuring learners are well-informed and inspired as they move toward their future careers.
