Bradford Colleges “Rebel Racer” raced to success at this year’s annual Bradford Super Soapbox Challenge, finishing in an impressive 4th place, just 1.3 seconds behind the winning team and capturing the coveted ‘Best Looking Racer’ award in the process.
Now in its third year of competing, Bradford College once again brought innovation, creativity, and team spirit to the track. This year’s racer was a collaboration between students from the Engineering and Motor Vehicle departments, who spent weeks designing, building, and refining the sleek soapbox racer.
The team’s efforts paid off not only in performance but also in-catching design, awarding it the title of Best Looking Racer, a proud moment for all involved.
“It wasn’t just the racers who had a blast, both students and staff who came along to support had a fantastic day too, soaking up the great atmosphere, cheering on the teams, and celebrating the amazing community spirit the event brought out. A huge thanks to everyone involved and to the organisers for such a fun and memorable event. Well done, Rebel Racers you’ve made Bradford College proud!” said Stephen Smith, Head of Department for Motor Vehicle and Engineering. “Our students showed real skill and teamwork, and we’re incredibly proud of how they represented the College.”
Students brought the force with them on May the 4th for race day, helping to run the car, support the team, and cheer it down the track. Their energy and enthusiasm were a highlight of the day and showcased the College’s commitment to hands-on learning and community engagement.
The Soapbox continues to be a fun and competitive tradition for the College, giving students a unique opportunity to apply their skills in a real-world setting.
Here’s to even greater success next year and maybe even shaving off that extra 1.3 seconds!
