Remodelling project

Contractors Sewell Construction managed the renovations alongside new T Level facility works in the David Hockney Building. The carefully coordinated project involved substantial planning and staff involvement, from designing spaces to preparing for the first day of opening.

Paul Topham, Bradford College Project Manager, said: “While the move into the ATC was not without its challenges, particularly due to the tight deadlines, the overall impact on the curriculum and learner experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Staff have embraced the new opportunities for teaching, and learners are benefiting from enhanced learning environments tailored to meet their needs.”

An enhanced learning space

The new purpose-built teaching spaces and studios are tailored to specific vocational subjects, making learning more engaging and practical. Staff can now run dynamic, hands-on sessions, giving students a real-world, practical edge.

The new layout has also brought teaching teams closer together, sparking collaboration across subjects and inspiring creative, cross-department projects that weren’t possible before.

Most importantly, students are thriving. The spacious, carefully designed ATC building helps learners stay calm, focused, and ready to learn. Its layout makes it easier for staff to monitor students and step in with support when needed—creating a space where students’ learning behaviours flourish.

Specialist facilities

The site re-opened in September 2024 and was carefully designed to meet the needs of Progression to Learning and Work students and staff. The building now boasts:

• a fully resourced art room
• hairdressing and barbering salons
• a beauty studio for hands-on learning
• a science lab with classroom space
• a welcoming ‘Food to Go’ café
• an up-to-date security barrier system
• a reconfigured hygiene room
• and contemporary ICT suites
